Vibrant designs set to be hot sellers for CanTeen’s Bandanna Challenge

By Wright Communications

CanTeen celebrity ambassadors surfer Paige Hareb, free-skier Jossi Wells, rugby player Daniel Carter, netballer Maria Tutaia and clothing label Federation have all created unique and eye-catching designs which are sure to be popular sellers during this year's Bandanna Challenge appeal.

The annual fundraiser runs for two weeks from 14 to 30 September.

They are joined by CanTeen patient member, Konagh Garrett, patient and sibling member Anna Hocquard, and sibling member Mikayla Archer who all had their stand-out designs selected for this year's appeal.

Anna, 19, who was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma at the age of 15, says her eye-catching "zebra stripe" design sums up the uniqueness of each CanTeen member.

"Like CanTeeners, no one zebra is the same. I feel the most loved when with CanTeen and that is why I picked love hearts, bursting through the unique stripes," she says.

One of CanTeen's longest standing celebrity ambassadors, rugby superstar Dan Carter has returned for the fifth time, this year with a vibrant, red "coat of arms" design, a statement of his Canterbury heritage.

Dan says the design, with its words of "Strength, Hope and Courage", is an expression of his personal support, for both young people with cancer and the people of Christchurch.

CanTeen, which receives no direct government funding, acknowledges that volunteers play an invaluable part in helping deliver its activities and raise much needed funds.

The funds raised through CanTeen's annual appeal goes towards providing peer counselling workshops, development and leadership programmes, recreational activities and much more, for young people aged 13- 24 living with cancer, whether as a patient, sibling or bereaved sibling.

CanTeen is still looking for volunteers from all over the country to help sell bandannas and collect donations during this year's Bandanna Challenge.

Schools and businesses are also welcome to register to sell bandannas.

To volunteer, phone 0800 CANTEEN, email info@canteen.org.nz or find your closest CanTeen office at www.canteen.org.nz/about/our-people.
