Managing Director Mike Pollok was on hand to receive the award for Ricoh's third annual report, which was one of eight shortlisted for the national awards.
"Ricoh is recognised globally as one of the world's most responsible companies, and Ricoh New Zealand has focused on sustainability to the point where it is now business as usual for us.
"We believe in the importance of publically reporting our economic, social and environmental impacts. We strive for global best-practise reporting using the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines, so it's hugely pleasing to have the 2010 report recognised as being among the best in the country."
"I would like to thank Ricoh's team of more than 270 in New Zealand for their buy-in to our focus on sustainability, and especially those who helped with the data recording which is so important for our annual external reporting."
The judges, who awarded the 'Best Report' prize to Sanford Ltd, said Ricoh New Zealand's report was "a credible report which demonstrates Ricoh has a broad understanding of environmental issues and their impact on business strategies".
They also noted the considerable reporting on product and service stewardship. These include Ricoh's market-leading toner cartridge recycling schemes, its partnerships with Sims Recycling Solutions to dismantle and recycle end-of-life machines, and the innovative design of Ricoh products which include almost 100 per cent recyclable components.
Mike Pollok says: "The challenge for us now is to take on board the judges' recommended improvements, and deliver reports to our stakeholders in the future which are even better."
