Toyota's most technologically advanced small car, the 2019 Corolla, will arrive here later this year with a stylishly distinct, dynamic, muscular and sophisticated look.
A new engine, transmissions, chassis, suspension, emotive body and interior all contribute to a more involving drive.
"The humble Corolla is no more. This new Corolla has soul, character and personality" said Neeraj Lala, Toyota New Zealand's General Manager of Product and New Vehicle Sales.
"New Zealand's car of the decade has easily received its biggest upgrade, with a sharp new design that looks amazing and feels fantastic when you drive it."
Mr Lala said the new Corolla is lower, wider and longer than the current model, with an uncanny blend of balance, composure and feel. "It's the most agile and best handling Corolla we've seen."
A new TNGA two litre petrol engine has 21 per cent more power and 15 per cent more torque yet is more economical. The engine will also be available with an all-new Dynamic-Shift CVT with 10 programmed shifts and includes the world's first launch gear in a passenger vehicle CVT, resulting in powerful and predictable acceleration.
"There is a range of class leading technology, safety equipment and exceptional comfort," said Mr Lala.
The upgraded Toyota Safety Sense package has improved levels of pedestrian and cyclist protection, as well as lane tracing assist and road sign assist.
The cabin has an open harmonious feeling with sensuous minimalism, electrifying functionality and personality.
A petrol hybrid electric powertrain will also be available in two variants, instead of just one as it is currently.
"We're committed to lowering our overall CO2 emissions by offering more hybrid options," said Mr Lala.
"This car is stacked with excitement and I'm confident it will attract new customers, just like the new Camry."
