GLAD TO BE GREEN® FOOD CARE RANGE SUPPORTS ECO-MINDED KIWIS

Looking after the planet and living sustainably is becoming a pressing issue for a vast majority of Kiwis. New research reveals that 50% of all New Zealanders are concerned about food waste and more than half are aware that food waste contributes to CO2 emissions. It should also come as no surprise that 86% are trying to be more sustainable at home, seeking out simple and effective ways to start making an impact.

GLAD is choosing change over standing still. To play its part in helping consumers change the outcome and make more sustainable choices, it recently launched its Glad to be Green® food care range.

Research commissioned by GLAD as part of its #ChangeTheOutcome campaign paints a detailed picture of New Zealand attitudes and approaches to composting, recycling and reducing food waste.

Results reveal that while almost a third of Kiwis have never composted before, 20% are taking up composting to be more sustainable at home, making the timing of the Glad to be Green® Compostable Bake Paper quite perfect. It is sustainably sourced, unbleached, chlorine free and certified home compostable* after use.

Two thirds (68%) of New Zealanders feel throwing out food is a waste of money, but they also estimate they are wasting 8.9% of the food they buy. Reducing food waste is estimated to help save Kiwis an average of $21.39 each week.

GLAD knows better storage and usage of food plays a role in reducing the amount of food heading to landfill. 40% of those surveyed say they create new meals out of leftovers to prevent waste, and 34% are seeking out more effective storage methods to delay the onset of food decomposition.

The Glad to be Green® cling wrap & reseal products are the more sustainable choice for Kiwis looking for better ways to store and plan their meals, protecting and preserving food for longer lasting freshness. The products contain a minimum of 50% plant-based plastic produced from a renewable source of sugar cane and have a smaller carbon footprint**. Glad to be Green® 50% plant-based products are recyclable through TerraCycle and Soft Plastics Recycling schemes in New Zealand, a perfect option for the 50% who are actively increasing the amount they recycle at home.

All Glad to be Green® food care products have the trusted strength and quality of GLAD and will keep food fresh and protected, diverting food waste from landfill. Packaging is made from a minimum 70% recycled paper and is 100% recyclable.
