Cherry and spice and all things nice

By Wright Communications

The 2015 Pinot Noir comes from a classic cool climate growing season in Marlborough with superb ripening conditions that led to an unusually early Pinot Noir harvest with the fruit in optimum condition.

For this wine, selectively harvested fruit from Gunn Estate's Marlborough vineyards was carefully destemmed to fermenters. Gentle handling through fermentation and pressing has yielded a concentrated and supple wine which belies its price point.

The result is an excellent example of the an approachable yet well-structured Pinot Noir with classic varietal fruit expression and a delicious complexity.

The timing of this release could not be better as Gunn Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2015 is an ideal drop for outdoor dining on the long, warm El Nino summer evenings to come.

Tasting Note: Dark cherry colour. The nose also has dark cherry notes, with wild strawberry and cinnamon spice. The palate has ripe, dark fruits, classic structure and elegant length with finely knitted tannins.

Food match: Wood-fired pizza topped with mozzarella, roasted red onions, prosciutto, fresh rosemary and lashings of good quality olive oil.

Recommended retail price: $17.99.

Gunn Estate Reserve Range: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Merlot/ Cabernet.

Gunn Estate Reserve Marlborough Pinot Noir 2015 is available at all good supermarkets.
