Simon Roche has a unique skill-set, mixing expertise in corporate and organisational communications with major events. These diverse skills are an ideal fit at Wright Communications, which not only works extensively with the local government sector but also on major projects. As Group Account Director at Wright Communications, he plays a key role in managing the day-to-day operations of the consultancy.
Simon has built a reputation over more than 18 years as a highly effective communications professional with a high level of political acumen and a successful record of delivering important outcomes across local government and the private sector.
He started his communications career in local government working at Auckland Regional Council, Auckland Plus, Auckland City Council and ATEED. He led Auckland's strategic communications for Rugby World Cup 2011 and since joining Wright Communications he has worked on many major events including the NRL Auckland Nines, V8 Supercars ITM500, ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, FIFA Under-20 World Cup 2015, World Masters Games 2017, America’s Cup 2021 and APEC 2021.
At Wright Communications, Simon has applied his local government experience to a range of projects including Auckland Transport's parking strategy, Auckland Council's Waste Minimisation and management Plan and ATEED's domestic tourism campaign. He has also worked with corporate clients such as Forsyth Barr, Blue Star, Toyota, research company Colmar Brunton and Countdown.
Although many public relations practitioners consider themselves wine connoisseurs, few can match Simon's refined wine palate, which he developed working in the wine industry where he ended up running a wine academy and teaching wine appreciation courses.
"At Wright Communications we have a real team approach, bringing together a group of people with diverse strengths, skill-sets, personalities and points of view. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Simon Roche
