Distinctive new look to bestselling Kiwi classic

By Wright Communications

The 11th generation of the world's bestselling car offers high quality, driver oriented, comfortable interiors wrapped in a smart and dynamic exterior.

Previous drivers of the traditional and ever-popular GX and GLX models will relish the more contemporary, cleaner design and improved comfort and space.

In addition, two new sporty, premium additions, the Levin SX and Levin ZR, arrive hot on the heels of Toyota's 86 sports coupe, which set fans into a frenzy. These models are sure to broaden Corolla's appeal to even more Kiwi small car buyers.

"With these two new sporty Levin models, we're providing a premium solution for drivers downsizing from other segments," says Steve Prangnell.

The changes to the new model are the result of a total vehicle approach to improving driveability and dynamic performance, while also reducing emissions and improving fuel economy.

The entire range has been rethought and reengineered; not a task to be taken lightly when you're talking about a vehicle with more than 39 million units sold in over 140 countries since its debut in 1966. A new Corolla has been sold every 40 seconds for the past 40 years.

"In New Zealand, Corolla has topped its segment for 28 years in a row, and has been the country's favourite passenger car for 15 out of the last 25 years," says Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Sales, Steve Prangnell.

"The latest Corolla hatch is bolder, more dynamic, better equipped and cheaper to run than ever before. We've also worked with Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan to reduce the recommended price of our GX models by $1000 and GLX models by $2000 over the outgoing models; even with the extra specification that's been added," says Prangnell.

From the entry-level GX model up, the new Corolla range boasts a fantastically modern, sleek look and specification to match, including Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and audio streaming controllable via the steering wheel, AUX and USB inputs, voice recognition software, a multi-information display, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, electric power steering, engine immobiliser, cruise control, ISO-FIX child seat mounting points and 60/40 split folding rear seats.

Recommended retail prices for the four models are as follows:

  • The Corolla GX is available for $33,490 (six-speed manual gearbox), or $34,990 (fuel-efficient seven-step Multi-Drive Sport Continuously Variable Transmission or CVT).
  • The Corolla GLX is $37,490 (exclusively Multi-Drive Sport CVT).
  • The sporty Levin SX is $38,990 (exclusively Multi-Drive Sport CVT).
  • The luxuriously-appointed Levin ZR is $43,690 (exclusively Multi-Drive Sport CVT), with the option of a panorama sunroof an additional $1800.
