Andrea Moore’s captive winter glamour at NZ Fashion Week

By Wright Communications

Andrea's AW12 collection reveals a new level of her design talent and expresses a dark glamour, eccentric and complex, inspired by John Berendt's bestseller 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'. The collection is as magical and hauntingly beautiful as the book's fascinating rendering of its characters.

"A character in the book is described as having 'eyes so black they were like the tinted windows of a sleek limousine'," says Andrea. "I let these descriptive qualities of the book lead the designs into a slightly darker place than I usually go but still full of rich glamour and beauty."

Colour is always incorporated into Andrea's designs, and for winter the richness of jewel tones combined with a gothic edge creates an evocative and sensual collection.

The collection reflects the classic yet dramatic statement an Andrea Moore design makes. "There is a strong move away from black and into these regal, transformative jewel tones, which express individuality and impart strength to personality."

Andrea also uses lace in this collection to amplify the glamour and femininity. "The subtle sheerness and texture of the lace is so luxurious with the jewel tones. Along with that, a touch of possum skin (from Wairarapa) and ostrich feather add to the luxury."

She believes the fabrics build the framework for the story the collection will tell. When designing her garments she aims to allow the personality or the quirks of an individual to be worn freely without overwhelming them.

"Often to my eye prints can hang together creating interesting characters and layers in a potential outfit." Each dominant print in this collection is exclusive to the label and unique, either designed completely by Andrea or in collaboration with a fantastic team.

Andrea Moore has stores in the Old Bank Arcade in Wellington, Merivale Christchurch,Teed Street Newmarket, Ponsonby Road and recently opened a store on High Street in Auckland's CBD.
