Parking Strategy

Auckland Transport

The brief

Auckland Transport is the council-controlled organisation that runs Auckland's transport network.  In 2014 it had to develop a unified parking strategy for the city, to replace the previous parking regimes from the seven legacy councils.  It had to conduct extensive public consultation and inform media on the strategy, while avoiding negative coverage or a public backlash over what is a sensitive issue for Aucklanders.

The Wright approach

Wright Communications provided Auckland Transport with a range of services to assist it with its project, including consulting on media strategy and producing supporting material such as brochures, feedback forms, question and answer sheets and a media release.  Wright Communications helped the public consultation process go smoothly, with a large number of submissions and balanced, objective media coverage.  The comprehensive approach to communicating the plan, including through online channels, also ensured the public were well-informed and had a clear understanding of how to make submissions.

"Wright Communications worked with Auckland Transport in developing key messages and a range of consultation and communications materials for our Parking Strategy. There were a number of complex issues to be communicated and Wright Communications' assistance in developing relevant, clear and consistent information was pivotal in ensuring our audiences were informed - the result being more than 9000 submissions to our proposed Strategy."
